Welcome to Tioman Island

Tioman Island is a small island located in the state of Pahang in Peninsular Malaysia and face to south china sea. TIOMAN ISLAND also known as the largest of the 64 volcanic islands that form the Seribuat Archipelago. Beside Langkawi Island, Tioman island is also duty-free-island. There are many buty-free shop selling alcoho drink, choclate, and ciggrate around the island.

The waters around the island are fairly clear divers can expect better visibility conditions in other waters, but one can generally expect between five and 10-metre visibility around Tioman. This, however, does not detract from the beauty of its coral reefs, which are a veritable underwater garden of colourful marine life.

Around the Island

Kampong Tekek is the most important village on the island. Here is the jetty, coming from Mersing or Singapore, and the airport is there. Near the jetty is a row of food stalls beside the road, selling mainly local dishes like nasi lemak, roti canai, fried rice, and drinks. Over a bridge there is a 2-storey building selling souvenirs and more food and to the left of this is the airport. Just a stones throw from the bridge is also the islands only clinic.

Salang Beach is a popular beach destination at the north of Pulau Tioman, located along the west coast in a secluded bay. A youthful spot that attracts large crowds of global backpackers, the village is a great place for meeting people across the world over beer or two, with a good range of budget hotels along the beach and countryside. Salang is also a diver’s den, being the closest village to many reef sites and wrecks around Tioman, including Coral Island (Pulau Tulai), Chebeh, Batu Malang and Fan Canyon. A high concentration of pubs and restaurants cater for the village’s active nightlife scenery, the resorts also participating by holding bonfire parties by the beach.

Things to do

Snorkeling and Diving

While you are in the islands, nothing is prefect without doing diving or snorkeling. The marine area around Pulau Tioman and eight other nearby islands have been gazzetted as marine parks and marine reserves, confined to an area two nautical miles from the coast. Apart from Tioman, the other islands that made up the Pulau Tioman Marine Park are Pulau Labas, Pulau Sepoi, Pulau Gut, Pulau Tokong Bahara, Pulau Chebeh, Pulau Tulai, Pulau Sembilang and Pulau Seri Buat.

Chill up and relax at the beach

There’s nothing better than going for an early morning walk along the beach when on holiday! It’s good for the soul. Salang Beach and Paya Beach is one of the places you have to check out while you are staying in Tioman Island. The beautiful beach with the relax environment offers much more that soothes the tensed senses.

Jungle Trekking

The most rewarding thing I did on Tioman was to take a four wheel drive taxi to the far side of the island, and walk back through the jungle from Juara Beach. There is no road, just a dirt rack. By the time we had spent 30 minutes bouncing over the mountain to get there, I was starting to regret the idea!
In fact, it was wonderful. The first bit is tough, as it is an uphill slog up the only portion of paved road. After that, the track goes one way, and the dirt road the other. The jungle path is impossible to get lost on, and most of it is either on the flat or downhill! It took a few hours, but gave us a real sense of achievement. Beautiful forest.
